Oxford Giant

National Grid Ref SP 565 065

This is said to be on the on Shotover hill (599ft high). Shotover hill to the west of Oxford provides a good view and would have made an ideal place for the construction of a hill figure.

The giant was said to have been constructed before the civil war, probably by undergraduates inspired by the figures constructed by Cambridge university students. The figure was lost by the time Stuckey wrote his family memoirs in 1763.
