Hoo Meavy

NGR SX535639

This incline was self-acting: worked by gravity. A truck loaded with granite from the small quarries near the incline’s head would descend the incline connected by a rope or hawser to a drum at the winding house at the summit, pulling up an empty truck as it did so. The incline was probably active in the 1830s and the quarries had closed by about 1870.

There are still remnents of this incline, particularly at the top.
